~EXCERPT~

The sensation that she was being watched prickled over her skin and she lifted her eyes to find her husband staring at her hungrily from the doorway. “Hey baby, what’s the serious look for?” He asked gruffly, making her belly quiver just by licking his lips.

“Uh, nothing too important. Did you finish up everything you needed to?” Her voice came out breathy and husky with the desire rolling through her veins.

He nodded, and moved further into the room, pushing the door shut behind him. “Lolly looks good, and the hands have everything under control for the next couple of days.”

“That’s good. When should we expect Lolly’s new baby?” she asked, rising from her chair in anticipation. She couldn’t care less about the pregnant mare right now, but this was part of the game of seduction between them. She enjoyed the pursuit. The feeling of his need for her when he pushed her into an intimate situation in an inappropriate place.

“Six more weeks.” His response barely registered as he reached for her and slid his hands up to release her long red hair from its braid, weaving his fingers through the long locks to separate them before fisting his hands in them and pulling her head back to kiss her deeply.

She loved the way he took the kiss from her, not asking, not teasing, just taking what he needed and giving her back what she wanted. It set off explosions in her brain and her core heated quickly. Rubbing against him like a cat, she tugged at his shirt, pulling it free from his belt, and pushing her hands underneath to reach his bare chest. Years of hard ranch work had etched muscles like granite into his body, and she paid homage to each one with a caress or squeeze. At the same time he ran his own hands from her scalp to her ass, stealing squeezes and strokes of his own.

Parting with a gasp for air, she moaned when he nipped her earlobe. “We have to leave in an hour,” she murmured.

“I only need half that,” he growled against her ear, spinning her and pinning her to the top of the desk, her laptop closing with a sharp click.

  3a742-excerpt

Every night, as my daddy taught me, I kneeled by my bed and said my prayers. But tonight, I wanted ask for something. “Now I lay me down to sleep … I pray the Lord my soul to take. Oh, please bring me a mommy. Amen” “Come on, Frankie. It’s time to go to the park,” my dad yelled from downstairs. “I’m coming, Dad.” Wearing my play clothes, a long purple shirt and black leggings, I slid my feet into my shoes and ran down the stairs. I loved the noise it made, like a herd of elephants, as my dad would say, but I always pictured horses. One last bang rang out, as I jumped off the last step and landed on my two feet. I turned the corner to see my dad at the door with our two Cane Corso dogs, Dante and Beatrice. Dad named them after some epic poem, whatever that was. Our dogs were special, though. They were blue, well, they looked grey to me, and their hair was short and thick. I loved running my fingers through it, trying to make it stick up. They came from Italy, some sort of mastiff. I didn’t know, really, all I knew was they were big, real big and strong. But we trained them so well that they listened to all of their commands. Dad always let me hold Dante, and I held the leash loosely in my hand, while he healed on my left. He’d stay there, following my every move until I gave him the “free dog” command. Our walk to the park was quick and when we got there I could tell the grass had been just cut. The strong smell hit my nose. I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. “Alright, you all go play, and I’ll be right here on my bench, okay?” “Yes, Daddy.” I unclicked their leashes and wrapped them around my waist, like belts, and threw the ball for the dogs.

Excerpt from “What Child Is This?” Please come home for Christmas this year? I don’t bother replying to my sister’s text. She knows I’m not coming home. I just power off my phone and stuff it back into my jacket. With a tired sigh, I lean back, close my eyes, and find myself doing the one thing I try never to do. I think about the mess I’ve made of my life. Ten years ago, I’d been an eighteen-year-old living in Paisley Springs, Tennessee—a tiny, rural town about two hours north of Nashville. Ten years ago, I’d been a popular athlete with dreams of becoming a professional basketball player. Ten years ago, I’d been the golden child of Dr. Benjamin and Olivia Fisher. Ten years ago, I’d been a boy in love. I still am. Life is full of highways, and some are just too long when you’re trying to find your way home. In my case, some forgotten roads completely disappear. Time erases them, to the point that you begin to wonder if they ever really existed in the first place. But they did. I know they did. I close my eyes and try to ignore the image that flickers behind my eyelids. In my mind, Emma Hayes is still eighteen years old. With her long red hair and deep green eyes, she’d always looked at me as if I was her dream come true. And I was, until I ripped those dreams away. We were together for more than a year, and it had been the happiest time of my life. But being crazy in love makes you do stupid things. Careless things. And then things happen that you never imagined would happen to you. OUAD Teaser2 Excerpt from “Mistletoe Magic” “Doing some last-minute shopping?” Ethan asked. Melanie blinked rapidly before nodding. “I am,” she replied stiffly. “You?” He lifted the gold bag, giving it a little shake. She nodded. “For someone special?” “For my wife. You?” “My husb—” Her reply was cut short when the lights dimmed, and the elevator lurched to a stop. “Fantastic,” Melanie mumbled. The emergency lights flickered on, and Ethan pushed the alarm button before grabbing the elevator’s phone. Melanie listened intently as he barked orders to someone before slamming down the receiver. “The entire block is in the dark,” Ethan grumbled. He removed his jacket before settling himself on the floor. “What are you doing?” “Getting comfortable,” Ethan said. “The guy said it might be a while.” Melanie glanced down at her silk dress. “I’m not sitting on this dirty floor.” Ethan shrugged. “Suit yourself.” Melanie eyed his jacket. “Speaking of suits, isn’t that Armani?” “I have no idea which expensive name is stitched on the label.” She smirked. “But you know it’s expensive.” “There isn’t a suit in my closet that didn’t cost a fortune. My wife insists upon it.” “Maybe that’s because your wife has good taste.” “Maybe that’s because my wife is too hung-up on labels.” Ethan loosened his tie and sighed tiredly. “Just sit down. I hate enclosed spaces, and you’re making me nervous.” A stubborn Melanie remained on her feet, but the four-inch heels of her favorite boots weren’t the most comfortable, and after a few minutes, she finally relented and removed her coat. It was far less expensive than the dress, after all. She placed it on the floor before slowly sitting down. “See? Isn’t that better?” Melanie sighed loudly. “One of us should probably conserve our cell battery,” Ethan suggested, pulling his phone out of his pocket. “My Blackberry has a full charge, so I don’t mind keeping mine on if you’d like to save yours.” With a nod, Melanie reached into her bag and turned off her iPhone. “You don’t want to text someone first?” Ethan asked. “Your husband might worry if you come home late.” Melanie somehow resisted the urge to laugh. “No one worries about me,” she said. A brief look passed between them before they both quickly looked away. Excerpt from “The Little Drummer Boy” Rum pum pum pum. It’s faint, but it’s there. A quiet, rhythmic beat that blends into the night. How this old man heard the sound is beyond me. “You hear it, don’t you?” With a nod, I look around, hoping to find the source of the sound. The man points toward the coffee shop’s covered alleyway. “Back there,” he says. The carolers begin their rendition of “O Holy Night,” and once again, I hear the “rum pum pum pum” coming from the darkness. Intrigued, I step away from the old man and walk slowly toward the alley. Each step brings me closer to the beat, until finally, I see a little boy, nestled in the corner. His only light comes from a lantern, and a snare drum rests in his lap. The drum is scarred and the strap is frayed, but it’s obviously his most prized possession. Probably his only possession. Does he live here? In this filthy alley? And where are his parents? “Shall I play for you?” His voice is just a whisper. His clothes are dirty and ragged, and the faded blue jacket he wears is about three sizes too big. “I heard you playing,” I tell him, keeping my voice soft and light. The last thing I want to do is scare the kid. “You’re very good. Are you alone?” He nods. “Where are your parents?” His face contorts in pain, and my stomach lurches. He can’t be more than five years old. Maybe six. “Shall I play for you?” he asks again. A little stronger this time. A little more determined. Because I don’t know what else to do, I nod. The covered alleyway has thankfully kept most of the snow away, so I find a flattened section of shredded cardboard and sit down. I don’t think about the fact that I’m probably ruining my thousand-dollar suit. I just sit and listen. The boy’s sticks pound the head of the drum. Rum pum pum pum. Rum pum pum pum. Each rhythmic thump pierces my soul, and when he comes to the end of his song, I reach inside my jacket for my wallet. “No, sir,” he says softly. “I don't need your money.” It’s hard not to laugh. The kid is surrounded by dumpsters and living in a cardboard box. If anyone needs my money, it’s this child. “What do you need?” “Just food.” “I can pay you with food?” The boy nods vigorously, and I notice his eyes are suddenly a little brighter. The poor guy is probably starving and could definitely use a bath. Dirt cakes his face, but he has the biggest, bluest eyes I’ve ever seen. “Why don't you come home with me?” I hear myself say. “My wife loves to cook.” He shakes his head. “I can't leave. My mom told me to stay here. I have to stay here.” “How old are you?” “I'm six, sir.” “Do you have a name?” “My name’s Luke.” “Well, Luke, my name is Justin Banks, and it's cold out here. It's going to keep snowing.” “Yes, sir,” he whispers, his voice trembling. “I could take you home with me for a little while. You could take a bath and eat some dinner with us.” At the mention of a bath, he smiles. “And then we can try to find your mom and dad.” The little boy bows his head, and when he looks up at me again, the light in his eyes is long gone. “My mom told me to stay here.” I close my eyes in frustration. I can talk a judge and jury into almost anything. Have I really met my match in a six-year-old living in a cardboard box? Maybe so. But I have a secret weapon. ~~EXCERPT~~

“What’s the medical term for your jumping illness?”

I was glad the question came up right away. “It’s called Tourette’s Syndrome.”

“What is that?”

The question plagued me wherever I went, and I had the answer down pat. Explaining it one more time wouldn’t kill me. “The sudden and involuntary tics and vocalizations are byproducts of an abnormal metabolism of my brain’s neurotransmitters.” I shrugged.

“Wow… sounds heavy.”

Yep, it was a big issue for a teenager, something I wouldn’t ever sign up for. “If my involuntary cursing and jerking doesn’t bother you, then I don’t have a problem being your partner. I’m just trying to protect you from a possible heart attack. In my experience, people get nervous being around me.” I leaned against the cushion, feeling good now that I’d gotten her all prepared. If my fever was making me delirious with happiness, then I wouldn’t mind the mercury spiking up a bit more.

“You sound like you’ve been hiding for much too long, Curly.”

It would have sounded better if she used babe or sweetie, but I’d settle for anything. “It comes with the territory, but let’s not talk about me anymore. Why don’t you tell me what you want to do for our photography project?” This was a ploy to get her talking so I could keep listening to her voice.

Shannon’s eyes rolled up to the ceiling. “Um, I like taking pictures of moving subjects rather than portraits. I would love it if you would pose for me. You’re very interesting, Mexican jumping beans and all.” She giggled.

I glared in mock disapproval at her attempt to make light of my situation. “Hell, no. I’m not comfortable in my own skin, let alone with allowing someone to take my picture for everyone to make fun of.”

I stood up, but my legs wobbled. Shannon was quick to get up and place her arm around my waist. Holy smokes, batman. She touched me!

“You’re such a dork! I’m not kidding. Haven’t you checked yourself in the mirror?” she asked, helping me back down onto the sofa.

I felt like a total loser and had no idea what to say. Look at myself in the mirror? I’d been doing that for the last seventeen years and never liked what I saw—blond hair, dull blue eyes, and average build. Interesting was a word I’d never apply to myself.

Freakish, yeah. Right on.

Teaser Tuesday: Sneak Peek from T.M. Franklin

Teaser Tuesday

Today for Teaser Tuesday, a sneak peek at what T.M. Franklin's been working on for National Novel Writing Month!

Jamming his hands into his sweatshirt pockets, Beck shivered and blinked the sleep out of his eyes with a yawn. He took a step back and looked around, finally able to focus on his surroundings. The neighborhood was a mess, not even counting the mayhem around the house fire. Garbage cans were upended in the middle of the road, one crunched under the wheel of a black sedan with a dent in the side, parked halfway onto the sidewalk, the driver's side door hanging open and spray paint scrawled across the hood. Paper and trash scattered in the wind, littering front yards up and down the street. Beck tilted his head a the sound of another siren, further away, and a distant rumble he realized was shouting.

What in the world was going on?

His dad strode up. "House is empty. The Jensens aren't home," he said, looking up at the fire. "The house is a loss, though. They're pretty much just trying to keep it from spreading to other buildings at this point."

"Do they know how it started?" Beck asked.

His father frowned. "Bunch of kids, apparently. Maybe gang activity. They're not sure," he said. "They came through, causing trouble . . . vandalizing, looting, that kind of thing. Not sure how they started the fire, though. Not sure why they'd want to.

"I don't know." He shook his head, brow furrowed as he turned toward the still-wailing siren. "It seems like this town's gone crazy or something."

Beck opened his mouth to respond, but his ringing phone interrupted his thought. He grabbed it, instantly recognizing his sister's ringtone.

"Hello? Tru?"

Only heavy breathing and a soft whimper responded.

"Trulee? Is that you?"

"Guess again," a chillingly familiar voice responded.

Beck's heart stopped. "Gina?"

The woman laughed. "What happened to 'Mom?'"

"You lost that privilege a long time ago."

"What's going on?" his father asked. Beck shook his head and held up a finger to hold him off.

"How did I raise such an ungrateful child?" she asked, words slurring. "You're such a disappointment."

"Well, that's nothing new," Beck replied through gritted teeth. "Where's Trulee?"

"Trulee . . . Trulee . . . Truuuuuuleeee . . ." Gina sang tunelessly. "Wouldn't you like to know?"

"What have you done to her?"

"Nothing she didn't deserve," she snapped. "Ungrateful, useless—"

Beck didn't hear the rest of her rant. He hung up the phone and fumbled for his car keys, racing for the house when he realized he'd left them inside.

"Beckett!" His father chased after him, catching him on the way back down the stairs. "What in the world is going on?"

He pushed his way past. "It's Tru. I think she's in trouble."

Teaser Tuesday: Irrevocably Claimed - A Collection of Erotic Stories featuring Sherri Hayes

Genre: Erotic Romance/Erotica
Release Date: November 6, 2015

Sherri Hayes has released a new story as part of the Irrevocably Claimed anthology, which is now available for a limited time for only 99 cents.

Excerpt

Justin had just swallowed his last bite when there was a knock on his door. He glanced up at the clock. It was half past two. Since he wasn’t expecting anyone, he had no idea who it could be. A delivery, maybe? But even then, he was left scratching his head. He hadn’t ordered anything recently.

Setting his empty plate on the coffee table, he walked over to the door and looked through the peephole. He jerked back and swiftly opened the door. Standing on his threshold was his best friend’s little sister. Justin and Mark had been best friends since they were sixteen. In high school they’d done everything together—even went on a few double dates. Now that they were both adults, they got together once a month to catch up and shoot the bull while downing a few beers and yelling at whatever game happened to be on the big screen of their local sports bar.

Kim stood there staring at him with wide eyes.

“Hi,” he said.

“Hi.” She looked nervous.

“Did something happen?”

She shook her head. “No. Nothing…no. May I come in?”

He took a step back and motion for her to enter. Kim walked inside and he closed the door behind her. “Are you sure you’re all right?”

“Yeah. I’m fine. Promise.” She flashed him one of those sweet smiles of hers. It caused his chest to clench every time. He didn’t see her as often anymore as he used to, but they still ran into each other on occasion. Justin had been such a fixture at their house during the last two years of high school that he was often invited to family gatherings. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, seeing Kim at those times had been a definite highlight.

He reached for the remote and turned off the television. She was obviously here to talk to him about something. “Would you like something to drink?”

“Sure.”

She was acting really strange. “What would you like? I have water, soda, beer, wine…pick your poison.”

His joke fell flat.

“Water. Thank you.”

He nodded and ducked into the kitchen.

Justin took his time getting Kim’s water. Standing in his living room fidgeting with the belt of her coat, she looked almost fragile. It threw him because he knew she wasn’t any such thing. Kim had graduated at the top of her class in college and landed a job almost immediately thanks to one of her professors. She’d excelled in her position and quickly rose within the company. Last he’d heard, she was being considered for vice president of operations. The woman knew what she wanted and went after it. That was one of the things he admired about her—one of the things he’d always admired about her.

As he headed back into the living room where Kim was waiting, he racked his brain trying to figure out why she was here. All thoughts went out the window, however, when his gaze fell on Kim kneeling on the floor, naked. Her head was bowed, her knees parted, and her forearms rested on her thighs, palms up.

After Anton Vetrov brutally murders a young girl as a warning to Tristan Riley, the broken DEA agent believes the best thing for Lillian Maddox to do would be to stay far, far away from him. But Lillian knows a thing or two about fear, and she's not willing to let the man she loves push her away that easily. If he won't fight for them, she will... even if that means risking her life to prove she's strong enough to live in his world.

Her plan ends in disaster when she's dragged out of Teplo at gunpoint, forcing Tristan onto a collision course with the Vetrov family and Pedro Francisco. With nothing left to lose except the only woman who has ever mattered to him, he will do whatever it takes to stop Vetrov and Francisco from ever hurting her again.

But he doesn't know they've been waiting for him to make his move. When he does, all hell breaks loose, and his life is on the line. It's up to Lillian and the DEA to save him, and she's terrified they won't make it in time.

Thrust headlong into a violent, bloody confrontation with the Vetrov family, Lillian comes face to the face with the heartbreaking realization that maybe she doesn't belong in Tristan's world, after all. When the smoke clears, will he be able to convince his ballerina that she's the best thing for him, or will he lose her and the chance at a real future once and for all?

"What's so funny?" he demanded softly.

"Sometimes life just fucking sucks," she said, giggling again. "I think your mouth is rubbing off on me."

"Mmm," he growled playfully and flipped her over until she was lying beneath him. He grinned down at her, the shadows that'd crept into his eyes during their conversation gone, replaced with happiness, softness. "I noticed that. You called me baby."

"I did," she murmured, staring up at him.

His grin widened. "You called me baby once before, you know."

"Did I?"

"Mmhmm." He nuzzled his face against her throat. "When I fucked you against the front door. I think I like hearing you call me baby almost as much as I like hearing you scream my name, beautiful. You sound so good screaming my name." He nipped her throat.

"Tristan," she whimpered, writhing beneath him as his wicked words sent heat through her all over again.

"You sound good whimpering it, too," he murmured. "Fuck, Lillian, everything you do drives me crazy." He pressed a soft kiss to her temple before dropping back down beside her and dragged her into his arms once more. "Every time I'm near you, I'm turned on."

"It's the same for me," she whispered.

"Is it?"

"Yes, all the time. When you look at me or touch me… I don't know, it's like an addiction, I think. I crave more and more of you every time." Her brow furrowed as she traced the line of his abs with one finger. "Is it really like that for you, too?"

"All the time, sweetheart," he murmured, kissing the top of her head. "I can't get enough of you." He reached out and grabbed her hand, dragging it down his body and placing it over his crotch. He was hard again, his cock like steel in her palm. "You keep me like this, Lillian."

She smiled and curled her hand around his length, stroking softly. "I like knowing that."

"Fuck." He arched his hips into her hand before wrapping his own hand around hers and gliding it up and down his erection. Far too soon, he stilled her hand and pulled away, causing her to groan in protest. He chuckled and twined their fingers together again, placing them on his chest, over his heart. "Rest, beautiful. I've been all over you tonight."

"I like having you all over me," she grumbled. She loved having him all over her.

"I like being all over you," he answered with another soft chuckle at her petulant tone. "But you need a break or you'll be too sore to move, and there's no fucking way I'm going to be able to keep from sinking myself into you at least once tomorrow."

Well, she couldn't very well argue with that, now could she?

"Fine, but only for the rest of the night," she warned him, not willing to go any longer than that before feeling him again. The things he did to her… he could do them every day of forever and she'd die happy. She wanted him to do them to her every day of forever.

God. Forever. Was it too soon to want that?

Tristan and Lillian's Netflix Watch List

Tristan and Lillian don't spend a lot of time in front of the television, but when they do have time, they love to snuggle up and watch their favorite shows and movies... or not watch them as the case may be! Here's what's on their lists and why.

Tristan

·         Narcos – This is a new series, but it's surprisingly good. It captures the messed up reality of drug trafficking, while humanizing the people behind the scenes.
·         Arrow – A man with a past? A man on a mission? That's not familiar at all!
·         From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series – Because it's a cartel of vampires. Which is basically every cartel ever. Tristan can relate.
·         Three Kings – Risking everything to screw a bad guy and save a life? Tristan is down with that.
·         Without a Paddle – Even the most ridiculous of missions can have value.
·         Beowulf – Lillian is slowly showing Tristan the value of literature and the classics.
·         Gangland – Gangs piss Tristan off. It never hurts to spend a little time getting to know them better, especially in his line of work.
·         Inside Cocaine Wars – Another docu-series about the job. Getting to know some of the other agents with the same mission is always helpful.

Lillian

·         Phantom of the Opera – What isn't to love about Phantom of the Opera? The story is haunting, beautiful, and timeless.
·         Center Stage – If anyone can relate to being told they aren't good enough, Lillian can. Jody is so much like her.
·         Cyberbully – Another one that hits close to home for Lillian. Bullies are everywhere, and they are brutal.
·         Dollhouse – Echo is a total badass. And she's not what anyone expects.
·         The Originals – Two words: Joseph Morgan. Does she really need another reason?
·         Being Human (U.K.) – The original U.K. version is the way to go with this one. It's got a little bit of everything, and is so good.
·         Ballet 422 – She may no longer be in the world, but she misses performing. This documentary lets her relive those moments she loved.
·         Half the Sky – Lillian has traveled the world and seen oppression firsthand. This documentary tells the story well, and gives her hope for the future.
